A Family Passion for Weddings

I grew up with Brides. Literally. My mom is a Custom Wedding Dress Designer and I grew up between rolls of lace, spools of ribbon, white shoes, rhinestone buttons and all the cute things I girl could dream off.

Some how, after studying and working in unrelated fields, by chance I ended coming back to the same business I had known all my life.

I started with my own wedding over 12 years ago. When silk flowers were actually silk and there was no Etsy. I looked for silk flowers to purchase for my overseas wedding and couldn’t find anything that I liked. So I made my own!

Well, like many Brides do, I changed my mind. From a “fall” theme I went to a tropical theme and I could no longer use those flowers. So the sabby shopper that I was, I posted them in an online auction site and voila! They sold… and surprisingly very fast!

I saw an opportunity and a niche. A need for fresh looking silk flowers and cute custom accessories. And like that, in just one “bid”, Wedideas.com was born.

This business has been with me through 3 children, 3 house moves, 4 business locations (5 if we count my garage when I first started) and has become a part of my children and my friend’s lives.

I now have some help in my store, but every item is made with love and understanding of how important this day will be for our customers. And I love nothing more than receiving pictures of the weddings we have helped create, and share them with my mom, who in turn shares hers with me.

Choosing Healthy Skin Care Products

When I began working in the field of dermatology, I was given the opportunity to learn about and sell very different lines of skin care products.

I’d grown up with all of the big drug store and high end department store names but had never really heard of these elite skin care lines that only licensed dermatologists seemed to know about.

Unfortunately, dermatologists or physicians are also the only ones, in most cases, who can purchase, market, prescribe and distribute to the general public, meaning—their patient base.

Every once in awhile you may be able to find one of these products on Amazon or eBay for sale but according to the manufacturers, these items are being sold under false identities and without permission from the companies to distribute.

Sometimes you might even buy into a stash of product “knock-offs” without ever knowing it.UVPhysical520x320

For instance, ELTA MD has an incredible skin care line that focuses mainly on superior sunscreen protection while offering out of this world moisturizers and cleansers as a part of their new blue and white line.

Avene, Glytone and Neocutis are other big names in the dermatology world and they offer everything from cleansers and moisturizers to scar creams and skin bleaching agents for those with dark spots or severe hyperpigmentation.

Each company has an amazing line with incredible, well documented results and their prices are in well in line or less expensive than those of your well known department store brands.

The only differences?

These products actually work and aren’t packaged in shimmery, glass and gold packaging as I would imagine their marketing budgets are quite a bit smaller than that of Estee Lauder or Lancome.

I can’t wait for the day when these products are offered to the general population for use as I don’t really have the extra time or money to visit a dermatologist for product access.

Maybe some day. NEO_WEBSLIDERS-1-d66c005f9e92e82613ea949ceaff5582   Peace & Good Skin Care,   Lisa

Better Mineral Makeup Application

Are you still using liquid makeup? You may want to reconsider. You can do so much more with mineral loose powder makeup if you know some really good tips for better application. Mineral makeup (most) is better for your skin and if done right, it can provide a beautiful, flawless skin transformation.

THROW OUT YOUR SPONGES AND DON’T USE YOUR FINGERS

Most makeup sponges aren’t separated from the actual product and most are not cleaned properly or often enough. Sponges carry germs and harmful bacteria which can lead to skin break outs and exacerbate acne and rosacea conditions. Purchase a nice set of makeup brushes and use those for makeup application instead. Brushes offer better control with applying makeup and can be washed with mild soap and water and air-dried after each use if necessary. Dedicate one brush in particular for each one of your makeup products. One for concealer, one for foundation, one for blush, etc…Try not to mix colors, shades or textures using the same brush. A good, synthetic flat top brush with dense, soft bristles and a short, chunky handle are often best for mineral loose powder foundation as they hold the powder without fly away and allow you to effortlessly “buff” the powder onto the face which is really what gives the makeup a flawless, airbrushed look.

WASH YOUR FACE THOROUGHLY AND moisturize LIGHTLY

You should always start with a clean, dry face before applying mineral makeup and even if you’re OILY, you should moisturize lightly with a lightweight lotion, preferably one with a good broad spectrum SPF factor. If the moisturizer you’re using leaves your face feeling oily or greasy 5-10 minutes after application, then you probably need to find a much lighter formulation.

POUR A TINY BIT OF POWDER INTO YOUR (CLEAN) PALM OR ON A CLEAN SURFACE

A lot of people tell you to pour the minerals into the lid of the jar but repeated use in this way can cause bacteria to grow between makeup applications.

USE A FLAT TOP SYNTHETIC BRUSH OR ONE THAT IS HALF NATURAL HAIR AND HALF SYNTHETIC

Swirl the brush into the powder and tap off the excess before applying to the face. (This is called “loading your brush). Good mineral makeup is usually highly and naturally pigmented with a silky texture when swirled, so a just a little bit goes a very long way. You want to use as little powder as possible for your initial first layer application and buff the powder into the skin until you’re left with a silky, covered canvas. You can use a translucent powder mineral powder or a good concealer (Shea Butter Cream) prior to application to help cover scars, spots, or other annoying blemishes. Get into the habit of using a Taklon concealer brush to apply these too.

WAIT 5 to 10 minutes AFTER your first full layer application so that loose powder can warm up to the skin and settle. A lot of women apply the makeup and immediately figure their shade is too light or the coverage isn’t as flawless as they’d like and often switch shades too quickly or proceed with another layer. Give your mineral makeup some time to warm and develop and check the look at least 10 minutes later when applying a shade for the first time. You might be happily surprised with the color and coverage if you just give it some time.

USE A MINERAL MAKEUP THAT’S SAFE FOR THE LIPS AND EYELIDS

Most of the time, you won’t need a separate lip and eyelid primer if you have the right mineral foundation. Don’t forget to lightly dust your lids and lips thoroughly before applying lipstick, gloss, liner and eye shadow. You need to begin adding color when you have a flawless, all one color canvas. Lipsticks and eye shadows will not look as brilliant or last as long without some type of primer before application.

USE AN OIL CONTROL POWDER OR RICE POWDER FINISHING POWDER/VEIL AFTER FOUNDATION APPLICATION

An oil control primer powder or finishing powder veil will help to set the makeup, hide and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and control facial oil production for hours. You won’t find a need to “powder your nose” throughout the day as the makeup will stay cool and flawless and colors will be less likely to fade or wash away by lunch time.

DUST YOUR FACE WITH A WARM PINK OR GOLD BRONZING POWDER OR BLUSH

If you like a good healthy, natural glow- dust a light pink or warm toned blush or bronzer over your face or throughout your T-zone, cheeks and neck area. I prefer a pink copper bronzer with a hint of a satin finish to complete the look.

There is absolutely nothing you can’t do with mineral loose powder makeup because they’re so versatile. Find a good makeup, without cheap fillers and preservatives. Look for those with silk powder and crushed pearl powder, vitamins, zinc and iron oxides for color.

A healthy makeup should have 5-6 ingredients and no more than that.

Love & Good Makeup!
